Cuba attended the meeting in Lebanon of the Working Group of the International Meeting of Communist and Workers' Parties (EIPCO).
The Meeting of the Working Group of the International Meeting of Communist and Workers' Parties (EIPCO) was attended by Ambassador Jorge León Cruz, representing the Communist Party of Cuba.
The meeting, chaired by Hanna Ghareb, Secretary General of the Communist Party of Lebanon, was held in Beirut from June 28 to 30, 2024, during which the preparations and main topics of the Agenda of the Working Group Meeting of the International Meeting of Communist and Workers' Parties (EIPCO) to be held in Beirut between October 24 and 28, 2024 in Lebanon were addressed and analyzed.
During his speech, the Cuban representative ratified Cuba's principled position in support of the Palestinian cause and offered a comprehensive explanation on the statements of the Cuban government and parliament, expressing deep concern over the escalation of violence between Israel and Palestine, a consequence of decades of Israeli practices of illegal occupation and colonization, in flagrant violation of the inalienable rights of the Palestinian people in their own territory, as well as the prolonged disrespect for the Purposes and Principles of the Charter of the United Nations and International Law, including numerous relevant UN resolutions.
In addition, he reported on the multiple demonstrations held throughout Cuba, with the First Secretary of the Communist Party of Cuba and President of the Republic of Cuba, Miguel Diaz Canel, at the head of them, to denounce and condemn, in the strongest terms, Israel's genocide against the Palestinian people.
He also informed of Cuba's decision to intervene in the contentious proceedings initiated by the Republic of South Africa against the State of Israel, in accordance with its commitment to support and contribute as much as possible to the legitimate international efforts to put an end to the genocide committed against the Palestinian people.
The Cuban diplomat took the opportunity to express his gratitude for the international solidarity of the friends of the Cuban people who denounce and demand the elimination of the genocidal blockade imposed by the United States against Cuba for more than six decades.
He also acknowledged that the firm demand to the U.S. government that Cuba be excluded from the list of countries sponsoring terrorism is supported by many governments in the world, particularly in Latin America and the Caribbean, as well as by political, social and religious organizations in the U.S. itself and many U.S. politicians, and he took the opportunity to reiterate his gratitude for all the support received to demand that Cuba be excluded from the spurious list, where it should never have been.
The Working Group meeting was attended by more than 30 delegates from Communist and Workers' Parties from Greece, Turkey, Palestine, Democratic People's Republic of Korea, Czech Republic, Portugal, People's Republic of China, Russia, Spain, Cyprus, Iraq, Syria, Sudan, Cuba and Lebanon.
