The Consulate General of Cuba in Toronto commemorated, as part of the Latin American Film Festival in Toronto, the National Day of Cuban Culture.
The Director of International Relations and Chief of Protocol of the Province of Ontario; members of the consular corps accredited to that city, such as the Consuls General of Angola and Dominica; Oscar Vigil, president of the Canadian Council for Hispanic Heritage and organizer of the festival; Julio Fonseca, president of the Association of Cubans Juan Gualberto Gómez; friends of solidarity and Cuban residents attended the event.
The Consul General of Cuba, Jorge Yanier Castellanos paid tribute to the Canadian intellectual Keith Ellis, recalled the importance of the date and its significance for the Cuban people. He also denounced the economic and commercial blockade of our country by the US and thanked all the demonstrations of solidarity with our people.
Afro-Cuban religious ceremony held by a Cuban priest living in Toronto marked the opening of the soirée.
The seventh art was present, with the screening of the film "A night with the Rolling Stones" and the plastic arts, with the exhibition of contemporary Cuban paintings.
Tribute to the Ballet Nacional de Cuba and Alicia Alonso, which included the screening of the documentary Giselle and performances by Canadian students from the Danza Corpus School directed by the renowned Cuban dancer and choreographer based in Toronto, José Ángel Carret.
