Addis Ababa, February 16, 2025.- Through their official accounts in X, the First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba and President of the Republic of Cuba, Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Cuba, Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla, the Ambassador of Cuba to the African Union, Lucas Domingo Hernández and the Ambassador of Cuba to Ethiopia, Ms. Meylin Suarez congratulated the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of Djibouti, H.E. Mahamoud Ali Youssouf, on his recent appointment as Chairperson of the African Union Commission (AUC) at the 38th Summit of Heads of State and Government held in Addis Ababa.
President Díaz-Canel, in his message in X, highlighted the deep friendship between Cuba and Africa through a message that said "with this organization and the mother continent we are united by close ties of brotherhood, friendship and cooperation," adding "the African Union can always count on Cuba.
For his part, Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez also used his official account to express Cuba's support for the AU and its new leadership. "Cuba will continue to strengthen the historical ties of brotherhood and cooperation that unite us with the beloved African Union and the continent," Rodriguez wrote.
Cuba's ambassador to the continental organization, Lucas D. Hernández, underlined, in his congratulations, the importance of strengthening historical ties and cooperation between Cuba and the African Union. The Cuban diplomat also issued a congratulatory tweet for the new Deputy Chairperson of the Commission, Ambassador of Algeria, H.E. Selma Malika Haddadi.
At the same time, the Cuban ambassador to Ethiopia, Meylin Suárez, conveyed her congratulations to the Algerian ambassador, to whom she wishes success in her new functions.
This congratulatory gesture, issued through the official accounts of Cuban diplomats in X, reaffirms Cuba's commitment to international cooperation and the development of the African continent.
