Addis Ababa, February 17, 2025.- The Ambassador of Cuba to Ethiopia, Meylin Suárez, held a fruitful meeting with Brigadier General Dessalegn Dache, Director of the Directorate of History and Military Heritage of Ethiopia, to address issues of cooperation in the preservation of the historical legacy shared between the two nations.
During the meeting, in which Dr. Temesgen Yohannes, Senior Advisor to the Directorate, also participated, the restoration and conservation of Cuban historical monuments in Ethiopia, symbols of the deep bond between the two countries, was discussed. Joint activities were also discussed in the framework of the celebration of the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Cuba and Ethiopia, a special occasion to highlight the brotherhood forged throughout history.
Ambassador Suárez and General Dache agreed on the importance of rescuing and preserving these historic sites, not only as a testimony of the cooperation between the two nations, but also as an educational tool for new generations. In this regard, the role of history and heritage in the construction of national identity and in the transmission of values of solidarity and friendship between peoples was highlighted.
Relations between Cuba and Ethiopia have been marked by collaboration in multiple sectors, with a legacy that is reflected in the bonds of friendship between their peoples. The restoration of the historical monuments is part of the mutual commitment to strengthen this relationship and honor the memory of those who contributed to the birth of the brotherhood between the two peoples.
Both parties reaffirmed their willingness to continue working together on these projects, thus consolidating the historical ties that unite Cuba and Ethiopia.
