Cuban Ambassador to the African Union visits Embassy of Mozambique and highlights historic bilateral friendship

Addis Ababa, April 30, 2025.- The Ambassador of Cuba to the African Union, Mr. Lucas Domingo Hernández Polledo, paid a courtesy visit to the Embassy of the Republic of Mozambique in Ethiopia, where he was received by the Ambassador, Ms. Ana Nemba Uaiene. During the meeting, both parties exchanged on issues on the bilateral agenda and highlighted the historic relations of friendship and cooperation that this year commemorate their 50th anniversary.

Ambassador Hernández Polledo, expressed Cuba's firm commitment to continue developing and strengthening ties of brotherhood, solidarity and collaboration with Mozambique, both bilaterally and in multilateral spaces. He also stressed the importance of continuing to promote joint initiatives in sectors such as health, education, agriculture and human resources training.

The Cuban diplomat thanked Mozambique for its continued support for the international demand for the end of the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by the Government of the United States against Cuba. He also recognized Mozambique's support in maintaining its favorable vote both in the resolution presented annually by Cuba to the United Nations General Assembly and in the resolution adopted by the African Union in support of the island.

For her part, Ambassador Uaiene deeply thanked Cuba for its historical support, especially its support for the struggle of the Mozambique Liberation Front (FRELIMO) for the country's independence. She recognized the key role played by the Caribbean nation in defending the right of the Mozambican people to self-determination, the end of colonialism and the construction of a sovereign state.

Both diplomats agreed on the will to continue strengthening political, economic and cultural ties, while reaffirming their commitment to the principles of solidarity, mutual respect and South-South cooperation.
