Cuba and Tanzania reaffirm historic ties of brotherhood and cooperation

Addis Ababa, May 12, 2025.- The Ambassador of Cuba to the African Union, Lucas Domingo Hernández, paid a courtesy visit to the headquarters of the Embassy of the United Republic of Tanzania in Addis Ababa, where he was warmly received by his counterpart, Ambassador Innocent E. Shiyo.

During the cordial meeting, both parties highlighted the ties of brotherhood that have united Cuba and Tanzania since the establishment of diplomatic relations in 1962, based on the historical friendship between leaders Fidel Castro Ruz and Julius Nyerere.

The exchange made it possible to review the positive progress of bilateral ties and to reiterate the mutual commitment to continue strengthening cooperation in key areas such as health, education and human resources training.

The Cuban Ambassador thanked the Tanzanian government for its firm and repeated support for Cuba's fight against the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by the United States, as well as its support for Cuban resolutions in international forums.

For his part, Ambassador Shiyo thanked the Cuban Medical Brigade serving in his country for the valuable contribution of the Cuban Medical Brigade, and expressed his appreciation for the work they do, which has a direct impact on the well-being of the Tanzanian people.

Both diplomats agreed that the solid ties of friendship between Cuba and Tanzania constitute an example of South-South cooperation and reflect a legacy of solidarity that continues to guide the common actions of both nations.
