Cuban Embassy in India carries out a working visit to the state of Kerala

The Cuban Ambassador to India, Juan Carlos Marsán and the First Secretary Maiky Díaz Pérez carried out on 23-24 May 2025 a working trip to the state of Kerala with the purpose of advancing in the implementation of the agreements reached during the visit to Cuba of the Governor of that state, Mr. Pinayayi Vijayan, in June 2023, and of the Deputy Prime Minister of Cuba Eduardo Martínez Díaz to India, last March.

In the presence of the State Minister of Health and Sports, Ms. Veena George, the Ambassador signed, on behalf of the President of INDER, a Memorandum of Understanding with the Department of Sports of Kerala which will initiate bilateral cooperation in this sector.

In meetings with the State Director of Higher Education, Dr. Sharmila M. Joseph and authorities of the University of Kerala, collaborative actions in science and research, undergraduate and postgraduate academic exchanges, Spanish and English studies, among others, were planned. They were invited to participate in the University Congress 2026.

Several health, biotechnology and cultural centres of the territory were visited, where productive exchanges were held with managers and researchers, in order to strengthen bilateral cooperation in these strategic sectors.

In the presence of the Secretary of Tourism of the State Government, Mr. Biju K., a presentation was made to 22 tour operators of Kerala to promote Cuba as a destination.

The visit culminated in an exchange with members of the Cuba solidarity movement, who were updated on the situation in our country. The friends present ratified the condemnation of the criminal US blockade against our people and the unjust inclusion of Cuba in the infamous list of countries that allegedly sponsor terrorism.

 

The visit identified new horizons for further expanding and consolidating the friendly and cooperative relations between the two sides.
