The rector of the Central University "Marta Abreu" of Las Villas (UCLV), Dr. Luis Antonio Barranco Olivera, heads the delegation visiting the University of Glasgow as part of the strengthening of academic and scientific links between the two institutions.
The delegation is made up of Dr Yanelis Delgado Triana, Director of International Relations; Dr Anabel Díaz Hurtado, Vice-Chancellor; and Dr Ginley Durán Castellón, Director of University Assets.
During their stay until 7 June, the Cuban representatives will hold meetings with academics and managers of the University of Glasgow, with the aim of identifying and creating strategic alliances to promote the joint development of research, teaching and innovation.
As part of the visit, they will visit different sites of the Scottish university, such as the Faculty of Social and Environmental Sustainability, located in Dumfries. There, the delegation will participate in working sessions linked to tourism and global sustainable development, key areas for both universities. These activities will contribute to a shared and deeper understanding of the challenges and opportunities of sustainable tourism as a transversal axis of development.
This rapprochement gives continuity to the promotion of sustainable academic relations between Cuban and British institutions, in line with the Memorandum of Understanding signed last December 6th between the University of Glasgow and the University of Havana, which marked a milestone in the strengthening of academic cooperation between the two countries.
The current visit of the UCLV opens new opportunities to expand this collaboration, with an integrative approach that responds to common priorities in science, technology and vocational training.
