The Hague, June 14, 2025. In front of the statue of the Heroic Guerrilla, located in the central Dutch city of Utrecht, the collective of workers from the Cuban diplomatic mission to the Kingdom of the Netherlands, together with friends of solidarity and Cuban residents, paid tribute to the Bronze Titan, Antonio Maceo, and Ernesto Che Guevara, on their 180th and 97th birthdays, respectively.
The notes of our National Anthem and the laying of flowers by the participants, beginning with the youngest members of the group, kicked off the heartfelt tribute. In her keynote address, Cuban Ambassador Eva Yelina Silva Walker highlighted the values of both heroes, their sacrifice, courage, and selflessness, and the relevance of their example.
Art provided a special moment for the ceremony, with verses from our national poet Nicolás Guillén reciting his poem “Che Comandante, Amigos,” followed by performances of the well-known songs “Son los Sueños Todavía” by Gerardo Alfonso and “Hasta Siempre Comandante” by Carlos Puebla.
The historical coincidence that on the same day, 73 years apart, two great men were born, undisputed leaders and examples of revolutionaries, makes this day a moment of national commemoration. The workers of the Cuban mission to the Cuban Embassy, as part of our people, joined in the celebrations taking place today in every corner of the Caribbean island.
