Addis Ababa, June 10, 2025.- The Ambassador of Cuba to Ethiopia, Meylín Suárez Álvarez, took part in the celebration of Russian Language Day, organized by the Embassy of Russia in Ethiopia and the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA).
The event took place at the UNECA headquarters in Addis Ababa and was marked by an atmosphere of cultural and diplomatic fraternity.
The event featured traditional Russian musical and artistic performances, highlighting the richness of the language, as well as an impressive visual and graphic art exhibition that drew the attention of diplomats, government officials, and members of the academic community.
During the event, the cultural and political value of the Russian language, one of the six official languages of the United Nations, was highlighted. With more than 258 million speakers worldwide, Russian is not only the official language of many countries, but also one of the most influential languages in the history of science, art, and literature.
Cuba’s participation in this commemoration reaffirmed the historic ties of friendship and cooperation between the Caribbean nation and the Russian Federation, as well as Cuba’s commitment to multilingualism and cultural diversity within the United Nations system.
