Solidarity means class struggle! Defend the Cuban Revolution!

Statement by the Executive Committee of the Austrian Labor Party (PdA) in view of the recent US attacks against Cuba, Vienna, February 5, 2026

Just a few weeks after the 67th anniversary of the victorious Cuban Revolution, the existence of the socialist republic is seriously threatened. In the course of the reorganization of the world by the imperialist hegemonic power, the United States, the Trump administration has once again explicitly put the implementation of counterrevolution in Cuba and its subordination on the agenda.

In reality, no matter which party was in power in Washington, no matter what the name of the US president was, this goal was never suspended. Since 1959, the United States has been criminally attempting to overthrow the revolutionary government of popular power and reestablish capitalist conditions of production-exploitation through terrorism, assassination attempts and invasions, through sabotage, infiltration, sanctions and blockade policies.

But the Cuban people are resisting. They know the difference between socialist self-determination and imperialist oppression, because despite all the adversities, Cuba has achieved a remarkable feat of socialist construction that underscores the strength of the Cuban people, the capabilities of the revolutionary popular power government, and the correctness of Marxism-Leninism. Under conditions of imperialist intervention, the US blockade in violation of international law, and despite the abolition of Soviet and Eastern European cooperation, the Republic of Cuba has managed to face all difficulties and overcome problems. The Cuban Revolution was, is, and will continue to be a model and an inspiration for the peoples of the world and for the communist and workers' parties.

In this sense, Cuba is not simply another case of a country where the government does not like the United States and, therefore, military interventions and operations are intended to bring about a change of government. There is more at stake, namely the destruction of socialism as a real alternative to the political, economic, and social system—the conclusion of the counterrevolutions of 1989/90. The attacks and aggressions against Cuba are therefore at the same time attacks against the global working class and the world communist movement. Floridastrasse is currently the central front line in the class struggle between capital and labor, between capitalism and socialism.

For the Austrian Workers' Party (PdA), as a Marxist-Leninist party of the Austrian working class, this is about more than just rhetorical solidarity with a threatened people. It goes deep and fights broadly in the common and internationalist struggle against the class enemy, whose spearhead towards Cuba is US imperialism, but we also oppose any other imperialist interference, for example by the European Union. The unconditional defense of the Cuban Revolution is necessary.

The PdA once again reaffirms its unshakeable internationalist, fraternal, and proletarian ties with Cuba in the defense of self-determination and socialism, in the struggle against the US blockade and against current aggressions. We support the Government of the People's Revolutionary Power, as well as the Communist Party of Cuba, which we proudly consider one of our most important sister parties. We are on the front lines of the international revolutionary class struggle against capitalism and imperialism, for the liberation of humanity, which leads along the path of socialism. The Cuban Revolution is a milestone on this path; the Socialist Republic of Cuba is an outpost of liberated humanity. It must be defended by all means and forces of the international working class and the world communist movement.

Long live Cuba! Long live socialism!
Down with imperialism! Hands off Cuba!
Defend the Cuban Revolution!
