Cuba denounces new aggressive escalation by the United States at the UN in Vienna

Vienna, February 3. Cuba today denounced, at the United Nations headquarters in Vienna, the most recent and serious escalation of the hostile policy of the United States Government, describing it as a “brutal act of aggression.”

The statement was made by Karlen Regaiferos, Second Secretary of the Cuban Mission, during the 63rd session of the Scientific and Technical Subcommittee (SCCT) of the Committee on the Peaceful Uses of Outer Space (COPUOS).

In his speech, the Cuban diplomat linked the new aggression—an executive order threatening a total blockade on fuel imports—to the historic US economic blockade against Cuba. “These measures, together with the inclusion of Cuba on the unilateral U.S. list of ‘State Sponsors of Terrorism,’ constitute the main obstacle preventing the island's full participation in international space cooperation,” he said.

As part of the general debate, Cuba reaffirmed its historic commitment to the defense of outer space as an exclusive domain for peace, international collaboration, and sustainable development, for the benefit of all humanity.
