Kuala Lumpur, February 8, 2026. The Friends of Cuba Association in Malaysia (FOCA) and the Cuban Embassy celebrated the 51st anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries.
Cuban Ambassador Yadira Ledesma Hernández highlighted the more than five decades of cooperation, exchange, and friendship between Malaysia and Cuba, in which the promotional work carried out by the members of the Friends of Cuba Association in Malaysia (FOCA) has been fundamental in strengthening these ties.
As part of the celebration, an audiovisual presentation was shown about the history and friendly relations between Cuba and Malaysia, and the initiatives promoted by FOCA's supporters.
A Certificate of Recognition for their work was presented to the members of the Friends of Cuba Association in Malaysia (FOCA). And in a very special moment, Certificates of Recognition were also presented to two members of the staff of the Cuban Embassy in Malaysia: to Wong Sook Fun and to Evelyn Discaya Ancheta, for their 23 and 18 years of service, respectively, and their contribution to the work of the Cuban diplomatic mission in Malaysia.
We were honored by the presence of Datuk Vincent Sim Tiak Choo, promoter of cultural exchanges and exhibitions of Cuban art in Malaysia, and Dato Naresh Mohan, a key figure in trade between the two countries.
The members of the Friends of Cuba Association in Malaysia (FOCA) reiterated their commitment to continue strengthening the bonds of friendship, solidarity, and cooperation between the Malaysian and Cuban people, advocated for justice, peace, and international solidarity, and reiterated their condemnation of the illegal economic, commercial, and financial blockade, unjustly reinforced and applied in violation of International Law against the Cuban people
