Addis Ababa, February 15, 2026.- Former President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Olusegun Obasanjo, highlighted the historic brotherhood between Cuba and Africa during his participation in the 39th African Union (AU) Summit, recently held with the presence of heads of state, political leaders, and diplomatic representatives from across the continent.
In a private exchange, the former president emphasized that the relationship between Cuba and the African Union “is a close and fraternal one” and affirmed that any action that occurs in Africa has implications for Cuba, and vice versa.
His words convey a message of continuity in the historical relationship between the two regions and a recognition of the role Cuba has played on the African continent for more than half a century.
