Vienna, February 19. The newspaper Zeitung der Arbeit (ZdA), the official organ of the Austrian Labor Party (PdA), published an article highlighting the consequences of the oil embargo imposed by the United States against Cuba, with an emphasis on maternal and child health.
According to data from the Cuban Ministry of Public Health reproduced by the Austrian media, more than 32,880 pregnant women face risks due to the energy crisis. The electricity shortage limits access to obstetric ultrasounds for prenatal care and genetic ultrasounds for early detection of malformations.
The publication notes that the effects extend to medical emergencies, cancer patients, and chronic disease programs, leading to a direct increase in mortality in the country. The restrictive measures also make it difficult to acquire medicines, supplies, reagents, disposable materials, and hospital equipment.
The Zeitung der Arbeit has been one of the most active media outlets in Austria covering events in Cuba and traditionally reflecting actions of solidarity and denunciation of the blockade.
