Cuban ambassador denounces intensification of economic war against Cuba in Vienna

Vienna, February 19. The Cuban Ambassador to Austria, Pablo Berti Oliva, denounced before solidarity and trade union groups the intensification of the economic war imposed by the United States, which includes coercive actions against the supply of fuel to the island.

The denunciation took place during the presentation of an exhibition dedicated to the Argentine-German guerrilla fighter Tamara Bunke (Tania la Guerrillera).

The diplomat warned about the coercion exerted against companies and shipping lines to prevent fuel from reaching Cuba, causing difficulties for the population. “Right now, our economy is being suffocated to cause shortages and hardship among the population, with the vile purpose of making the Revolution give in,” said the diplomat.

Before those present, Berti Oliva linked this situation to the legacy of Tania la Guerrillera: “This is where Tania's legacy directly challenges you. Her internationalism is exercised by demanding an end to these new measures against Cuba and raising your voices for the primacy of international law and the principles enshrined in the Charter of the United Nations.”

The ambassador highlighted the historical resilience of the Cuban people, who have steadfastly and firmly resisted more than six decades of blockade and are now facing a new escalation. He added: "Cuba is not alone; we are accompanied by you, who stand with us in defending a more just and equitable international order.
