Lebanese women demand an end to the blockade at the WFDY International Forum
In Lebanon, Aida Nasrallah, coordinator of the Arab Regional Center of the Women's International Democratic Federation (WFDY), Wafica Mehdi, president of the José Martí Arab-Latin American Solidarity Association, and Mayra Nieves Escobar, head of consular affairs at the Cuban Embassy in Beirut, participated in the International Forum convened by the Federation of Cuban Women (FMC) “Women of the World in Solidarity with Cuba.”
During the event, held in virtual format, coordinator Aida Nasrallah was among the women leaders who spoke on behalf of women's organizations, feminist groups, social movements, and friends of Cuba, demanding an end to the blockade imposed by the United States against the Caribbean island for more than 60 years.
The occasion provided an opportunity to denounce the latest executive order by the US government, which seeks a total blockade of fuel supplies to Cuba and which has a drastic impact on the lives of Cuban families, especially women.
It was denounced as an act of genocide against children, the elderly, and the sick, who suffer from shortages of medicines, medical equipment, and fuel due to these sanctions.
More than a hundred leaders and members of women's organizations from various countries around the world participated in the videoconference, reaffirming their commitment to justice, peace, and international solidarity.
It became clear that Cuba is not alone and has the solidarity and support of women internationally in its right to defend its sovereignty and independence.
