“When there is patriotism… everything is possible,” emphasized a friend of solidarity.

Speaking at the event held at the Cuban Embassy in Grenada to commemorate the 47th anniversary of the Grenadian Revolution, Dr. Terrence Marryshow, leader of the Grenada-Cuba Friendship Association, recalled Cuba's ties to that historical event.

Marryshow, who studied medicine in Cuba, stressed that the close ties with Cuba and later with the Soviet Union were perceived by imperialism as a threat, which led to the 1983 invasion. “How could this small island, 22,000 times smaller than the United States, defy its dictates?” he reflected, highlighting that Cuban solidarity was a key factor in Grenada's resistance for four and a half years.

The leader of the Grenada-Cuba Friendship Association explained that, despite U.S. hostility, Cuba supported Grenada with concrete and selfless cooperation. “A small, poor country showed the world that development was possible,” he stated, noting that Cuban collaboration in health, education, and infrastructure projects was an example of regional fraternity.

Marryshow emphasized that the Grenadian Revolution demonstrated how national unity and international solidarity could pave the way to dignity. In that regard, he highlighted that the friendship between Fidel Castro and Maurice Bishop, leader of the Grenadian Revolution, symbolized the strength of small nations when they unite around ideals of justice and sovereignty in the face of imperialist hostility.

Finally, Marryshow invited reflection on the shared legacy of Cuba and Grenada. “The Revolution unequivocally demonstrated that when there is national unity, pride, and patriotism, then everything is possible,” he declared.
