The Hague, April 8, 2026. The University of Amsterdam and The Green Office project host a conference on agroeconomics in Cuba. In coordination with the Network of Solidarity with Cuba in the Netherlands and with the participation of Levin Dalpiaz from Wageningen University.
The conference featured numerous Cuban and foreign professors who have studied the subject in Cuba.
Notable contributions were made by Beatriz Navarro Fernández, Director of International Relations at ANAP; Margarita Fernández, from the Caribbean Institute of Agroecology; Ricardo Alemán, professor at UNAH and agronomist; Anuka de Silva, member of La Vía Campesina; and Martha González Jorge, a Cuban peasant woman.
The students were interested in learning about the impacts of the U.S. embargo on Cuban agriculture, as well as in understanding the different production methods used in Cuba.
For over two hours, the students discussed with the speakers the good agroecological practices used on Cuban farms, such as crop rotation, soil restoration, and the use of organic fertilizers.
The embassy attended the conference and helped answer questions related to the reality of Cuba.
