April 23, 2026 - The Ambassador of Cuba to Canada, Rodrigo Malmierca Díaz, held a meeting with the Honourable Randeep Sarai, Secretary of State for International Development.
In this context, the Cuban diplomat provided an update on the impact of the tightening of the United States blockade on the Cuban people, particularly the energy siege imposed since January 29. He also expressed gratitude to the Government of Canada for the two humanitarian aid packages approved in recent weeks and commented on other cooperation projects being successfully carried out with Canada.
Malmierca Díaz also highlighted the numerous expressions of solidarity Cuba has received, not only from authorities but also from various sectors of Canadian society.
Secretary of State Randeep Sarai stated that they are closely monitoring the situation in Cuba and reiterated Canada’s position against the blockade.
The meeting was also attended by Karen Austin, Deputy Director of the Central America Development Program, as well as other officials from Global Affairs Canada. On the Cuban side, the Ambassador was accompanied by counsellors Dany Tur de la Concepción and Isaylin Cabañas Vera.
