Port of Spain, May 20, 2026. Representatives of thirteen political and social organizations from Trinidad and Tobago today delivered a donation to the Embassy of the Republic of Cuba, as part of the Solidarity Campaign with the Cuban people launched on March 1.
On behalf of the participating organizations, political leader David Abdulah of the Social Justice Movement (MSJ) provided details about the supplies collected by the Solidarity Movement in Trinidad and Tobago and the Cuba Solidarity Group in the Commonwealth of Dominica.
Abdulah emphasized that the donation represents a gesture of support and gratitude toward the Cuban people, in recognition of Cuba’s historic solidarity with the peoples of the Caribbean and the world.
During his remarks, he denounced the economic, commercial, and financial blockade imposed by the United States against Cuba and condemned the tightening of sanctions, particularly the consequences resulting from the energy restrictions imposed on January 29 through an Executive Order by the current U.S. administration, later aggravated by additional measures announced on May 1.
On behalf of the participating organizations, he made a strong call for the lifting of the blockade against Cuba and rejected any attempt at military aggression against the country.
He also stressed that Cuba is not a failed state and underscored that, despite the limitations caused by the blockade, the country continues to share its solidarity and humanitarian values with many peoples around the world.
Referring to the statement issued this Wednesday by the Revolutionary Government, Abdulah condemned the accusations made against the Leader of the Cuban Revolution, Army General Raúl Castro, stating that this new action by the U.S. Government constitutes yet another attempt to intimidate Cuba and create a pretext for possible military aggression against the country.
For its part, the Friends of the Cuban People Group in Dominica contributed to the donation through the delivery of medical supplies and materials intended for the Isle of Youth. In a statement sent to the event, they also expressed their condemnation of the blockade against Cuba.
The Cuban Ambassador to Trinidad and Tobago, Gustavo Véliz Olivares, thanked the solidarity organizations of both countries on behalf of the Cuban people for their efforts and support. He also updated those present on the impact of the energy restrictions, especially in sensitive sectors such as public healthcare.
During his speech, he also condemned disinformation and manipulation campaigns aimed at justifying a potential military aggression against Cuba. He reiterated that there is no justification for attacking a sovereign nation and affirmed that Cuba is not preparing military actions against the United States, describing as false the arguments used to attempt to legitimize an invasion.
Véliz Olivares reaffirmed that Cuba will continue defending its sovereignty and highlighted the island’s commitment to peace and to the proclamation of Latin America and the Caribbean as a Zone of Peace, adopted during the Second CELAC Summit held in Havana in 2014.
Once again, it was demonstrated that Cuba is not alone.
The event received broad coverage in Trinidad and Tobago’s media and social networks, including prime-time news broadcasts from the Guardian Group and CNC3 television.
