Esteban Lazo exchanged views with the Diplomatic Corps of Asia and Oceania accredited in Cuba

Havana, June 11, 2026 – Historical, deep-rooted, and profoundly friendly ties unite the peoples of Cuba and the nations of Asia and Oceania. This was reaffirmed on Thursday during a meeting between Esteban Lazo Hernández, member of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the Communist Party, President of the National Assembly of People's Power and of the Council of State, and members of the diplomatic corps from this region accredited to Cuba.

In the fraternal meeting, Esteban Lazo pointed out that these exchanges are a tangible demonstration of the solidarity and fraternity existing with these countries, and of the relevance of inter-parliamentary ties for strengthening bilateral relations; which was ratified by the heads of the parliamentary friendship groups of the Cuban legislature.

Diplomats from Asia and Oceania accredited in Cuba reaffirmed their support and solidarity with our nation in the face of the economic, commercial, financial and energy blockade, and in the face of the aggressive escalation by the United States Government.

"We will continue to stand with the Cuban people in the struggle so that Cuba can continue to preserve its national independence and self-determination," said Le Quang Long, Ambassador of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam; while Fu Jie, Minister Counselor of the Embassy of the People's Republic of China, reiterated that the Chinese Party and people will always stand with the Cuban Party and people.

Meanwhile, Nívio Leite Magalhaēs, Ambassador of Timor-Leste, expressed the solidarity of the Timorese people and the demand for an end to the blockade and for the exclusion of Cuba from the spurious list of supposed state sponsors of terrorism.

During the session, the Vice President of the Cuban legislature, Ana María Mari Machado, shared the characteristics of the popular-participatory movement "My Neighborhood for the Homeland"; while José Luis Toledo Santander, secretary of the National Assembly of People's Power and the Council of State, provided diplomats with an update on the legislative activity of the Cuban Parliament after the proclamation of the Constitution of the Republic on April 10, 2019, and on the Cuban political system, among other aspects of interest.

The event also included the participation, on the Cuban side, of Alberto Núñez Betancourt, president of the International Relations Commission of the Cuban Parliament; and Ariel Lorenzo, director of Asia and Oceania of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs; among other deputies and guests.
