On June 6 and 7, the 12th Biennial Convention of the Canadian Network on Cuba (CNC) was held in the city of Toronto. Representatives from more than 20 solidarity organizations that are members of the CNC attended, along with invited friends from other organizations.
A review of the work carried out by each organization over the past two years was the focus of the first day’s proceedings. The reports reflected the tremendous efforts made to promote solidarity with and affection for the Cuban people, a task that has become even more significant under the current circumstances, as the homeland of Martí and Fidel faces a brutal offensive by U.S. imperialism.
The second day focused on proposed actions and the work plan for the next two years. A thorough debate centered on what more Canadians can do to help the Cuban people. As a primary objective, participants agreed to undertake actions aimed at preventing, at all costs, any military aggression against Cuba, a struggle that must also be waged in the virtual and media spheres.
The resolutions adopted and the final declaration condemned the United States blockade against Cuba and the current escalation of aggression; the spurious accusation against Army General Raúl Castro Ruz; Cuba’s inclusion on the arbitrary list of alleged State Sponsors of Terrorism; and Israel’s genocide against Palestine.
The current CNC executive committee was reaffirmed.
The event was attended by Cuba’s Ambassador to Canada, Rodrigo Malmierca Díaz, who expressed his gratitude for the solidarity shown by Canadians day after day and encouraged those present to continue raising their voices in support of just causes.
Also in attendance were Dr. Alex Carreras Pons, an official of Cuba’s Ministry of Public Health, and Víctor Manuel García Sánchez, Consul General of Cuba in Toronto.
