Austria Pays Tribute to Commander Fidel Castro on His Centennial

Vienna,  July 25. As part of the celebrations marking the centennial of the birth of Commander-in-Chief Fidel Castro Ruz, the Austria-Cuba Friendship Association (ÖKG) and the Cuban Embassy in Austria organized a moving tribute to the historic leader of the Cuban Revolution. The event, held at the ÖKG headquarters in Vienna, culminated in a screening of the documentary “Fidel es Fidel” by renowned Cuban filmmaker Roberto Chile.

The film, which compiles more than two decades of footage of the Commander-in-Chief shot between 2005 and 2012, offers an intimate and moving look at the man behind the legend, showcasing his charisma, his philosophy, and his unwavering commitment to the peoples of the world. The documentary, which has been screened at tributes to Fidel in various parts of the world, reaffirms the enduring relevance of his legacy in the international solidarity movement.

Cuba’s Ambassador to Austria, Pablo Berti Oliva, noted that this tribute coincides with the 73rd anniversary of the Moncada attack, a date that calls for expanding the legacy of the Commander and the Cuban Revolution. The diplomat also noted that Fidel’s centennial is being commemorated throughout the island and in numerous countries, with events such as the First International Colloquium “Fidel: Legacy and Future,” to be held in Havana from August 10 to 13. Organized by the Fidel Castro Ruz Center and various academic and cultural institutions, the event will be attended by several Austrian citizens.

This initiative is part of the program of activities being organized by the Cuban Embassy in Austria to commemorate the centennial of Commander-in-Chief Fidel Castro.
