Vienna, August 13, 2026 – As part of the centennial celebration of the birth of Commander-in-Chief Fidel Castro Ruz, the exhibition “100 Years with Fidel” opened today at the consular office of the Cuban Embassy in Austria. The exhibition, by Chilean artist and solidarity activist Luis Villaroel, who resides in Austria, brings together a remarkable collection of posters that capture the iconic covers of the magazine *Cuba SÍ*, published by the Austria-Cuba Friendship Association (OKG), dedicated to the historic leader of the Revolution. The event was attended by the diplomatic corps accredited in Vienna, the Cuban community residing there, supporters, and the Embassy staff, in an atmosphere of deep admiration for the Commander.
During the opening, the artist emotionally expressed his admiration for Fidel and highlighted the close ties that bind the Cuban leader to his Chilean homeland, particularly recalling the deep friendship and revolutionary solidarity that Fidel shared with Salvador Allende—a Latin American brotherhood that, as he emphasized, continues to serve as an ethical beacon for the peoples of the Global South. At the same time, Villaroel highlighted Fidel’s legacy for the Austrian solidarity movement, which he joined upon his arrival in Vienna in 1980.
“More than just an art exhibition, it is a space to remind us that Fidel’s legacy is not a static monument, but a flame that continues to ignite consciences, just as he dreamed,” proclaimed Ambassador Pablo Berti Oliva as he officially opened the exhibition.
The exhibition, located at the Cuban Embassy in Vienna’s 7th district, will remain open to the public over the coming weeks, joining the many activities taking place across Austria to celebrate the centennial of Fidel Castro.
