Cuba, Vietnam, and Laos Strengthen Bonds of Brotherhood in Vienna on the Centennial of Fidel Castro

Vienna, August 28. In an atmosphere of camaraderie and as part of the centennial celebrations for Commander-in-Chief Fidel Castro Ruz, the diplomatic missions of Cuba, Vietnam, and Laos to Austria held a trilateral working meeting, where they reaffirmed the excellent ties between the three countries, their peoples, governments, and political parties. The joint participation of the three diplomatic missions facilitated a more fruitful exchange and greater engagement with the issues discussed.

Cuba’s Ambassador, Pablo Berti Oliva, along with his counterparts from Vietnam, Vu Le Thai Hoang, and from Laos, Khampheng Douangthongla, agreed on the desire to strengthen cooperation in the bilateral and multilateral forums managed from Vienna, reaffirming their shared commitment to multilateralism and the defense of the interests of developing nations.

In highlighting the centennial of the historic leader of the Cuban Revolution, the Vietnamese ambassador expressed his people’s deep affection for Fidel, recalling the words spoken by the Cuban leader on January 2, 1966, when he said: “For Vietnam, we are willing to give even our own blood.”

For his part, the Cuban ambassador recalled the close relationship between Cuba and both countries. He also highlighted the fundamental role of Commander-in-Chief Fidel Castro in establishing those historic ties, forged through mutual visits, party ties, and the historic support of Vietnam and Laos for Cuba in its struggle against the economic, commercial, and financial blockade imposed by the United States.

This meeting in Vienna demonstrates that the closeness between Cuba, Vietnam, and Laos transcends any geographical distance. They are united by a brotherhood forged on common values, shared struggles, and a deep mutual respect, which is renewed and strengthened in every forum for dialogue and cooperation, proving that the friendship between the three peoples knows no borders.
