On Tuesday morning, the Chargé d'Affaires of Cuba in Liberia, Yordenis Despaigne Vera, was received by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Liberia, HE Ambassador Marjon Vashti Kamara. The cordial meeting took place at the headquarters of the Liberian Foreign Ministry. The purpose of this visit was to deliver the letter addressed to Minister Kamara by his Cuban counterpart, Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla. Representing the counterpart were also the Deputy Minister for International Cooperation and Economic Integration, Mr. Dephue Zuo; Assistant Minister for American Affairs, Mr. Sie-teba Neufville, and Assistant Minister for Public Affairs, Mr. Wesley Washington. For the Cuban side also participated the Second Secretary, Carmen Maury Toledo.
The Cuban mission chief expressed his appreciation for the continued support received by Cuba from Liberia in the permanent battle for an end to the unjust blockade imposed by the United States against Cuba, stressing that this is still the main obstacle to normal development of the Cuban economy, particularly in its commercial and financial spheres.
In addition, he gave her a hard copy of draft resolution 71/5, which will be submitted on vote on November 1 at the United Nations General Assembly. The Cuban diplomat emphasized the added complexity of the adoption process of this resolution, taking into account the recent statements by President Donald Trump on the tightening of the blockade and the intention to step back in the process of normalization of diplomatic relations with Cuba.
Chancellor Marjon Kamara concurred in the complexities of the multilateral scenario, although she expects that solidarity with Cuba would continue, since the embargo is an unjust policy that must be lifted. He also reiterated his gratitude for the progress made in bilateral relations between Cuba and Liberia, including the start of consular services from Monrovia.
