Zagreb, 21 November 2017. The concurrent visitexecuted by diplomats of the Embassy of Cuba in Vienna, Marieta García Jordán, Counselor and Roberto Vizcaíno Martínez, Second Secretary responsible for Consular Affairs to Croatia´s capital, constituted an opportunity to ratify the will to broaden and strengthen bonds between both countries in various sectors in the margins of the 25th anniversary of the establishment of bilateral diplomatic relations which is being celebrated this year.
Working meetings were performed to the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs of Croatia to the Directorate of Latin American and the Caribbean, Multilateral and Global Affairs and Consular and Aliens Affairs where mutual interest topics were addressed. The details of the MoU project between both Ministries of Foreign Affairs to establish a Permanent Mechanism of Political Consultations which will be shortly signed by the Ambassador of Cuba H.E. Mr. Juan Antonio Fernández Palacios and the representatives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Croatia were finalized.
The Cuban diplomats thanked the Croatian authorities the traditional support offered by the Government against the economic, commercial, and financial blockade imposed by United States against Cuba expressed through its favorable vote to the resolution that Cuba annually submits to the UN General Assembly, particularly, the recent voting on 1 November. They also appreciated Croatian support to Cuba´s candidacy to the UNESCO Executive Board and the Political Dialogue and Cooperation Agreement between Cuba and the European Union which recently started it provisional implementation. They also provide information on the status of Cuba-USA relations.
An encounter with representatives of Croatia-Cuba Parliamentary Friendship Group led its President Marija Puh were executed during the visit. The mutual interest to strengthen the ties between the Parliaments of both countries corresponding to the good state of the bilateral relations was reiterated in the encounter. Croatian parliamentarians offered their support to the ratification process of the Political Dialogue and Cooperation Agreement between Cuba and the European Union in the legislative body.
Furthermore, during the visit, there were performed encounters with members of the solidarity movement with Cuba in Croatia, as well as with “CubaSí” the Association of Cuban Residents and with representatives of companies and travel agencies linked to Cuba. Besides, the consul offered consular services for the modality of traveling consulate. It was highly appreciated by Cubans and Croatians due to the chance it represents. Generally speaking, great affection and sympathy to Cuba in Croatia were found. They represent a significant potential for the development of bilateral ties.
