Monrovia, March 6, 2018-, On Tuesday morning, the Deputy Prime Minister of Foreign Affairs of Liberia, Mr. B. Elias Shoniyin exchanged with the Cuban Chargé d'Affaires, Yordenis Despaigne Vera. The appointment preceded a courtesy visit from the latter to the new Liberian chancellor, S.E Mr. Gbehzohngar Milton Findley. During the meeting, held at the headquarters of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Liberia, several officials of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of that country and the Second Secretary of the Cuban diplomatic mission Carmen Maury Toledo were present.
In a cordial conversation, Mr. Shoniyin highlighted Cuba's historical links with the African continent and made special mention of the Caribbean island's achievements in health and education, areas in which it hopes to achieve mutually beneficial bilateral cooperation advances during the new Liberian government. He mentioned that Liberia, as part of the regional and continental consensus, has historically supported Cuba in its fight for the lifting of the blockade, which, it estimates, will remain unchanged.
For his part, the Cuban diplomat ratified the willingness of Cuba and his government to continue accompanying, from their modest resources, the process of recovery and reconstruction of Liberia. Recognizing the historic support, he thanked this position, whose most recent manifestation was the adoption of a resolution condemning the blockade at the 30th Summit of the African Union last January. He mentioned that Cuba is experiencing historical moments in the face of the electoral process, which will be another victory for democracy and the Cuban people. Finally, he assured that Cuba will continue to provide solidarity assistance to the African nations, consistent with the legacy of Commander in Chief Fidel. (CubaMinrex/EmbaCuba Liberia)
