Charge d'Affaires of Cuba exchanges with President Pro-Tempore of the Senate of Liberia.

Monrovia, March 7, 2018-, Close to noon on Wednesday, Senator Albert Tugbeh Chie, was visited by the Charge d'Affaires of Cuba, Yordenis Despaigne Vera. During the courtesy visit, which took place in the office of the head of the upper chamber of the Liberian parliament, the Second Secretary Carmen Maury Toledo also participated.

Tugbeh Chie thanked to the Cuban diplomat his visit, while he said that "Liberia admires Cuba, especially after the help of Cuban doctors during one of the most complex moments we have lived." He wished it were the first time to establish closer ties with the Cuban parliament. In this regard, he was interested in knowing some characteristics of the parliamentary system of the Caribbean island and, above all, "how it has managed to have one of the best health systems in the world".

The Cuban mission chief, after conveying a congratulatory message on behalf of the president of the National Assembly of the People's Power of Cuba, for his recent election as Pro-Tempore of the Senate, was pleased to offer information about the upcoming electoral process in Cuba. Besides he reiterated the commitment and will of the government of the Greater Antilles to strengthen ties with African nations -including Liberia- by extending and diversifying areas of collaboration that may be mutually fruitful. The occasion was opportune to remember that on April 19 Cuba and Liberia will celebrate the 44th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations, and to thank for the sustained support that the Caribbean archipelago has received from Liberia, in the struggle for the total lifting of the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by the United States for more than 50 years.

Born on June 4, 1962 in Grand Kru County, he graduated in 1986 with a Bachelor of Geology from the University of Liberia and obtained a Master's Degree in Economic Geology from the University of Rochester in New York in the United States. Prior to his current position as President Pro-Tempore of the Senate, he has been a Senator for three years.  (CubaMinrex / EmbaCuba Liberia)
