To the Editor-in-Chief of "Die Presse":
With regard to the article of April 17, 2018 of Thomas Vieregge, I will not take the trouble to refer to the hostile and offensive statements it contains, for the simple reason that the editor evidently does not know the situation of Cuba, with security never He has been in Cuba and, furthermore, he has not been informed or very badly informed about what is happening in Cuba, which is expressed very well in the quality and professionalism of the information he offers.
In the article we can see, as many governments of the United States have said in the last sixty years, that they can not tolerate the existence of an alternative to the exploitative systems of the capitalist world. Cuba could be an example in terms of democracy, human rights (especially the economic, social and cultural rights included in the UN's social pact), joie de vivre and much more, and they do not want to allow that .
Cuba set out to develop a more just, dignified and more social society than exists in many other countries of the world. From the beginning they have attacked it with all possible means. Countless assassination attempts against Fidel Castro (partly approved by the CIA), sabotages with enormous damages, terrorist acts that have caused thousands of deaths and an even greater number of wounded with permanent disabilities, and, in addition, the economic and commercial blockade from Sixty years ago, it foresees even sanctions against banks and companies from third countries, which are applied in an unscrupulous manner and sometimes amount to millions. All these measures, taken mainly by the United States, have prevented the Cuban Revolution from carrying out many of the things it had planned.
The editor must inform himself about the achievements obtained by the Revolution, despite the adverse circumstances, in the sectors of health, education, culture and sports, and leave aside slander.
If the Cuban model were implemented and the Third World countries were emancipated and could have their resources, our welfare would be endangered, because raw materials would no longer be so cheap. That is why it is understandable that we must quell any kind of emancipation since its inception, of course, with the support of Die Presse.
Hermann Pernerstorfer, General Secretary, Editor of the CUBA SI Magazine of the Friendship Association of Austria Cuba.
