Port of Spain, May 16th. – A group of Caribbean youth joined by the condition of having graduated from Cuban universities in the last 20 years, met in the Embassy of Cuba in Trinidad with the objective of exchanging with Cuban diplomats about ideas and initiatives that contribute to maintaining the special bonds of friendship and sympathy that unite them with Cuba. The Caribbean professionals, nationals of Trinidad and Tobago, Saint Lucia and Saint Vincent and the Grenadines; were received by the Ambassador of Cuba in Trinidad and Tobago, Guillermo Vázquez Moreno, who was accompanied by other diplomats who make up the team of the Cuban delegation on the Caribbean island. The occasion was favourable for the youths to receive information related to various topics of interest about the socio-economic development of the country where they studied, as well as first-hand data on the current situation of the multifaceted cooperation relationship between the governments of Cuba and Trinidad and Tobago.
In this context, the Cuban Ambassador ratified the willingness of the largest island of the Antilles to continue its solidarity policy aimed at training and training young Caribbean people in its universities, as part of its foreign policy towards the region and the commitments assumed at the VI Summit. It was also recalled that as a result of these agreements, more than 5,432 young people from the Caribbean have been trained in Cuban lands and some 723 are currently studying in its universities, of which approximately twenty are Trinidadians.
The Caribbean youth were interested in the issues addressed and asked several questions about the Cuban events and the new challenges of their society. In some cases, ideas were expressed to strengthen or open new fields of cooperation in those sectors where they work, including health, telecommunications, tourism and education.
The exchange had the importance of drawing up new cooperation plans that will reinforce the inclusion of young graduates in the program of activities developed by the Cuban Diplomatic Mission in Port of Spain, whose contribution is fundamental in the common interest of strengthening friendly relations between Caribbean towns.
