Celebrating the 60th Anniversary of the triumph of the Cuban Revolution in Toronto

Toronto, January 7th, 2019.- Last Saturday, January 5th, in the cosmopolitan city of Toronto, it was celebrated the 60th Anniversary of the triumph of the Cuban Revolution. The event was organized by the Cuban-Canadian Friendship Association, the Latin American Solidarity Network (LACSN, ​​for its acronym in English), the Association of Cuban Residents in Canada, Juan Gualberto Gómez, the Hugo Chávez Front, the Cultural Group Víctor Jara and the Consulate General of Cuba.

The Steelworkers Hall welcomed more than a hundred Cuban, Latin American and Canadian friends, who have accompanied the just causes of the Cuban Revolution over six decades.

Josefinal Vidal Ferreiro, Ambassador of Cubato Canada, was the main speaker of this event. She thanked the present for the continuous expressions of solidarity throughout these 60 years of revolution, while highlighting the sustained support of the Canadian government with its vote against the Economic, Commercial and Financial Blockade of the United States against Cuba.

The Cuban diplomat made reference to the continuous updating of the Cuban economic model, the continuity of the legacy of Martí and Fidel in the figure of our new President Miguel DíazCanel, as well as the battle of the Cuban government and people to maintain and defend, at all costs, the fundamental and inalienable rights rescued by the triumphant revolution of January of the 59, whose most recent sample has been the national debate on the project of constitution that will be votedon February 24th.

Likewise, the Cuban Ambassador highlighted in her speech the importance of the work and ideology of Commander in Chief Fidel Castro Ruz as a guide for the Cuban people and the social movements of the Latin America and the Caribbean region.

The floor was also given to Professor Emeritus and translator of works of José Martí, Keith Ellis, as well as Cuban resident Daysi Camejo outstanding activist of the Juan Gualberto Association. Both recited allegorical poems to our celebration.

As it usually happens at Cuban celebration there was present our typical food and music. The Cuban singers Yulaysi Miranda Ferrer, winner of the contest “Sonando en Cuba” and Osdalgia Lesmes, delighted the audience by performing several genres of our nation's musical spectrum.

Also present at the event were the Consul General of Venezuela, Yolanda Brito, Consul General Grenada Derrick James as well as the and Consul General of South Africa Nyameko Goso.
