The Deputy Minister of the Federal Ministry for Digital and Economic Affairs of Austria, Mr. Franz Wessig received the Cuban ministerial delegation composed of the Deputy Ministers of Foreign Trade and Investment, Ileana Núñez Mordoche; Finance and Prices, Félix Martínez Suárez; and the Central Bank of Cuba, Arnaldo Alayón Bazo.
The Deputy Minister Núñez Mordoche pointed out that although trade between Cuba and Austria in 2018 more than doubled compared to 2017, it is still not very significant considering the existing potential. She also referred to the positive results of the Cuba-Austria business fora held in Havana.
Similarly, she also made reference to the business opportunities in Cuba, especially, in the Mariel Special Development Zone, at the time she expressed the Cuban interest for the Austrian business community to participate in the Portfolio of Foreign Investment Opportunities, which will broaden and deepen economic and commercial relations between the two countries.
Both parties exchanged views on the importance of making progress in the implementation of the agreements signed by both countries in the areas of economic cooperation, environmental technologies and renewable energies. They also ratified the willingness and interest in deepening trade relations and cooperation.
The existing potential in the Austrian market was highlighted, notably, its cutting-edge technologies in prioritized sectors for Cuba, such as renewable energies, digitization, and urban solid waste management, among others. Information on the Cuban Exportable Supply of Goods and Services was also provided.
Mr. Wessig, the Austrian Deputy Minister, expressed the willingness to continue working to implement the signed memoranda and to boost bilateral economic, commercial, and cooperative relations.
