Pastors for Peace on Tour in Canada

Ottawa, Friday, May 10, 2019.- As part of the annual tour of Pastors for Peace Caravan through North America, Ottawa Cuba Connections organized an event on Friday evening, with the presence of officials from the Embassy of Cuba in Canada and members of solidarity groups with our country.

The 30th edition of the interreligious organization IFCO/Pastors for Peace US-Cuba Friendship Caravan will take place this year. The Caravan annually collects donations to be delivered to Cuba in open defiance of the illegal economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by the United States against our country for almost 60 years.

University professor and tireless anti-imperialist fighter Reverend Luis Barrios, who is leading the tour through Canada, reaffirmed his organization´s commitment to the fight against the blockade despite the enormous hurdles imposed by the US administration on its work of solidarity with Cuba.

Cuban Ambassador Josefina Vidal thanked Pastors for Peace for their support to and solidarity with the Cuban people throughout all these years, and underscored that Cubans will never forget the images transmitted worldwide of Pastors for Peace, led by Lucius Walker, confronting the heavily armed authorities on the United States-Mexico border. Likewise, on behalf of the Cuban people, the Cuban diplomat also thanked the Canadian solidarity movement for its continued support and for always standing by Cuba.

The event raised funds for the IFCO / Pastors for Peace Caravan, which has been taking American citizens and humanitarian aid into Cuba since 1992, without a license from the US Government.

Reverend Luis Barrios will also tour the cities of Montreal, Kingston and Toronto with his message of love and solidarity to Cuba.
