Vienna, May 6, 2020. The Austria-Cuba Friendship Association "ÖKG" has continued its campaign "We help Cuba to help!", Aimed at raising funds to support Cuba in the confrontation with the Covid-19 pandemic. In addition to the 15 thousand euros sent at the end of March for the acquisition of materials, equipment and reagents; the Austrian organization recently contributed 5 thousand euros more for the acquisition of pulmonary ventilators for the treatment of hospitalized patients in serious condition.
These donations are part of the European project to support Cuba, centralized by the MediCuba-Europe organization.
The ÖKG has also launched a call to gather signatures against the blockade, under the title: “Cuba helps, we help Cuba! - For the end of the blockade!”. The petition, via the internet, has received 553 signatures so far and argues that Cuba has practiced international solidarity for decades and in the meantime, sanctions and the unilateral blockade by the United States that has been violating international law continue and complicates or prevents access to urgently needed medications, food, fuel and medical devices.
