Austria-Cuba Friendship Association (ÖKG) promotes campaign against the blockade

Vienna, August 4, 2020. The branches of the Austria-Cuba Friendship Association (ÖKG) in the cities of Linz and St. Pölten carried out various activities during the last week to promote the campaigns #UNBLOCKCUBA and “Cuba help us! we help Cuba! - For the end of the blockade!”.

The #UNBLOCKCUBA campaign is part of the actions of the European friendship associations with Cuba against the economic, commercial and financial blockade of the United States against Cuba.

For its part, the campaign "Cuba helps, we help Cuba! - For the end of the blockade!” It was launched in May by the OKG with the aim of instructing the Austrian government to persuade the United States Administration to end the blockade against Cuba immediately. It also calls on the European Union to make clear resistance to sanctions against Cuba and other countries, which violate international law. In addition, it requests, as a sign of solidarity and gratitude for Cuba's international support in the fight against COVID-19, that all the island's external debts be canceled. The petition has 718 signatures so far and can be accessed through the link: www.cuba.or.at/2020/04/26/petition/

The friends of Cuba took the opportunity to denounce once again the genocidal nature of the blockade against Cuba, a policy that has been reinforced in the midst of the confrontation with the COVID-19 pandemic, deliberately depriving the Cuban people of mechanical lung ventilators, masks, kits of diagnosis, protective glasses, suits, gloves, reagents and other supplies necessary for the management of this disease.
