Nigeria, January 14, 2022.- The Counselor, Pavel Bauzá Fusté, Charge d'Affaires a. i. of the Cuban embassy in Nigeria signed, at the headquarters of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of this country, the book of condolences for the death of Ernest Shonekan, former head of the Interim National Government.
The Ogun-born statesman was the head of the interim government that led Nigeria between the military governments of Ibrahim Babangida and Sani Abacha, from August 26 to November 17, 1993.
Shonekan, died at the age of 85 of natural death. He is considered a leader and statesman who contributed to the peaceful transition of the country, leaving his personal interests aside, at a time when understanding, tolerance and much wisdom were needed to achieve peace.
The nation's president and other former presidents of the country conveyed their condolences and recognized the positive values of Shonekan. Representatives of the Diplomatic Corps accredited in the country also attended to convey his condolences.
A national duel was decreed from January 14 to 16.
