Esteemed colleagues,

It is an honor for Cuba to assume for the first time the Chairmanship of the G77 and China in New York. That is why for us it is a great responsibility and a challenge that we take on with all the relevant seriousness and commitment. In this regard, I reiterate my gratitude for the support and trust placed in Cuba.

Remarks by ambassador Pedro L. Pedroso Cuesta, Permanent Representative of Cuba to the UN at the presentation of UNCTAD's Trade and Development Report 2022.

We thank UNCTAD and the Permanent Missions of Pakistan and Egypt for the organization of this event, as well as the invitation to participate and share some reflections during the presentation of the Trade and Development Report for the year 2022. 

I also thank Mr. Jeronim Capaldo and Ms. Orsola Costantini, Economists from Globalization Division on UNCTAD for their comprehensive briefings.

We thank the UNFPA Executive Director for her comprehensive remarks. We also seize this opportunity to recognize the efforts undertaken by UNFPA in striving for sexual and reproductive health and for the empowerment of women, adolescents and youth.

Cuba attaches particular importance to the new partnership for Africa's development and welcomes the efforts made to strengthen it. We recognize that there is a long way to go to overcome the continent's underdevelopment resulting from centuries of exploitation of its natural and human resources.
