The President of the House of Representatives of Cyprus Receives the Cuban Ambassador in Nicosia

Nicosia, Cyprus, March 11, 2026. The President of the Parliament of the Republic of Cyprus, Her Excellency Mrs. Annita Demetriou, received in a courtesy visit and as his first official meeting, the Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of the Republic of Cuba to Cyprus, Rubén Pino Martínez, after he presented his credentials to the local government on February 20.

The also President of the DISY Party offered a warm and fraternal welcome to the Cuban diplomat at the usual headquarters of the House of Representatives in Nicosia, a meeting in which both parties reiterated their mutual gratitude for attending this scheduled meeting, which aims to deepen and diversify relations between the respective Parliaments and the legislative authorities of both nations.

During the day, a cordial and respectful exchange was promoted, where the Cuban diplomat updated the highest representative of the Cypriot parliament on the situation that Cuba is currently experiencing as a consequence of the sixty-year-old U.S. blockade policy and the executive order issued last January 29 by President Trump to prevent the access of oil to the island, and its terrible consequences for Cuba.

Your Excellency,

It gives me great pleasure to welcome you to Lefkosia and to extend my congratulations on your appointment as Ambassador of the Republic of Cuba to the Republic of Cyprus. I wish you every success in the performance of your duties and assure you that my government stands ready to assist you in your mandate.

Cyprus and Cuba have maintained diplomatic relations for sixty-five years. Cuba was among the very first countries to recognize the Republic of Cyprus upon its independence, on 22 November 1960, thereby laying the foundations of a relationship firmly anchored in the core principles of the United Nations Charter, including sovereignty, territorial integrity, and independence.

Cuban Ambassador Attends Meeting with the Minister of Justice and Public Order of the Republic of Cyprus

Nicosia, Cyprus, February 12, 2026. Responding to an invitation from the minister of justice and public order of the Republic of Cyprus, Mr. Costas Fitiris, the ambassador of the Republic of Cuba, Rubén Pino Martínez, attended a meeting this Thursday with the Cypriot justice minister on the occasion of his assumption of office, in the context of Cyprus's temporary presidency of the Council of the European Union.

Sharing the invitation together with other representatives of the diplomatic corps accredited in Nicosia, the Cuban ambassador congratulated Costas Fitiris on his appointment, while also thanking him for the initiative to dedicate this respectful moment to the representatives of the attending missions and to promote closer engagement with the institution he leads.

In particular, Pino Martínez reiterated his willingness to coordinate specific bilateral meetings with the team that assists him in order to create a more formal exchange of opinions and knowledge related to jurisprudence between the two nations.

Cuban ambassador in Cyprus participates in the year-end event of the United Democratic Youth Organization (EDON).

Nicosia, Cyprus, December 30, 2025. The Cuban ambassador to Cyprus, Rubén Pino Martínez, participated this tuesday in the event organized by the United Democratic Youth (EDON) of Cyprus to say goodbye to the year that is coming to an end.

With young people from various districts of Paphos, Limassol, Famagusta, Larnaca, and Nicosia, the Cuban diplomat was able to share a lively and fraternal year-end gathering with members of the organization's leadership, including Seviros Koulas and Foteini Charalampous, Secretary General and Head of International Relations of the organization, respectively, along with a strong representation of the future and undisputed successor of the Progressive Party of Working People (AKEL).
