The United Democratic Youth Organization of Cyprus (EDON) condemns the escalation of imperialist aggression against Cuba.

The United Democratic Youth Organization of Cyprus (EDON) issued a statement condemning the new dangerous escalation of imperialist aggression against Cuba.

In its text, the youth organization of the Progressive Party of Working People of Cyprus (AKEL) points out that "the dangerous new escalation of U.S. imperialist aggression against Cuba is a continuation of a policy aimed at suppressing a people who for decades have defended their right to independence, sovereignty, and self-determination. The new decision by the Trump administration to impose tariffs on countries that supply fuel to Cuba adds to the long-standing economic, commercial, and financial blockade imposed since 1962."

The statement of condemnation specifies "this exclusion has immediate and painful consequences for the Cuban people. Restrictions on fuel imports lead to long hours and frequent power outages, which affect homes, schools, hospitals, and workplaces. The lack of fuel paralyzes public transportation, making it difficult for employees and students to get around."

AKEL: The new escalation of US aggression against Cuba is a new act of audacity by the Trump regime

2 February 2026, AKEL C.C. Press Office, Nicosia

The new escalation of US aggression against Cuba represents a new episode in the Trump regime’s audacity. AKEL denounces the new illegal measures taken by the US against Cuba and expresses its unconditional solidarity with the people and leadership of Cuba.

Trump's decree imposing tariffs on countries that supply oil to Cuba aims to provoke energy suffocation to the Cuban people and adds to the economic, trade, and financial blockade that the US has imposed on Cuba for 65 years. It should be pointed out that last October, the UN General Assembly, for the 33rd consecutive year and by an overwhelming majority of the world's states, called on the US to end the blockade of Cuba.
