January 15 - Cuban Science Day
A day like today in 1960, during the celebration of the twentieth anniversary of the Speleological Society of Cuba, in the auditorium of the Academy of Medical, Physical and Natural Sciences of Havana, the Commander in Chief Fidel Castro gave a historic speech in which he emphasized: "The future of our Homeland has to be, necessarily, a future of men of science, of men of thought". This date has been chosen to commemorate the Cuban Science Day.
The Ministry of Science and Technology (CITMA) of Cuba, the Cuban Research Centers and all Cubans commemorate this special day.
Cuba's President Rejects US Double Standard on Terrorism
"Including Cuba on the U.S. list of state sponsors of terrorism is the height of Trump administration's cynicism," Miguel Diaz-Canel denounced.
Cuba's President Miguel Diaz-Canel "firmly and absolutely" rejected the U.S. re-designation of his country as a sponsor of terrorism, a measure that "exposes Washington's double standards in this matter."
"To claim that Cuba sponsors terrorism is Donald Trump administration's height of cynicism. The blockade that it imposes and strengthens against Cuba is in itself State terrorism," Diaz-Canel pointed out.
Cuba: Infant Mortality Stayed Low in 2020
Despite the problems caused by the strengthened U.S. blockade, Cuba is one of the 35 countries with the lowest mortality rates in the world.
Cuba's Health Ministry (MINSAP) reported an infant mortality rate of 4.9 per 1,000 live births in 2020 despite the pressures put by the COVID-19 pandemic and U.S. sanctions on the health system.
Experiencing a reduction in the under-five years' mortality rate, the Caribbean island also reported its lowest mortality rate due to congenital malformations at 0.7 per 1,000 live births.
Cuba endorses commitment with Non-Aligned Movement
Minister of Foreign Affairs Bruno Rodriguez on Thursday endorsed Cuba's commitment to multilateralism within the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM).
In a message posted on his Twitter account, Rodriguez acknowledged the organization's condemnation of the coercive measures that hamper the effective fight against Covid-19 in Cuba.
He also highlighted the NAM's promotion of international cooperation and solidarity.
