Bienvenidos todos y todas,
Es un placer enorme recibirles, a esta noche de cine cubano, en la que disfrutaremos del filme "La muerte de un burócrata" (La mort d'un bureaucrate) del director Tomás Gutiérrez Alea (Titón) uno de los más destacados cineastas cubanos y latinoamericanos de todos los tiempos.
Formado en el Centro Sperimentale di Cinematographia en Roma, Titón absorbió las influencias del neorrealismo italiano. Su convicción en el poder transformador del cine lo llevó a ser uno de los fundadores del Instituto Cubano de Arte e Industria Cinematográfica (ICAIC), una plataforma que consideraba esencial para la transformación social.
Titón fue un creador excepcional, movido por la pasión de crear un cine con una identidad propia, dotó a la filmografía latinoamericana de títulos de gran valor. Sus filmes son retratos de una Cuba en movimiento, vista a partir de una crítica constructiva, realista y desde luego con un alto grado de autenticidad.
A lo largo de su vida logró la realización de más de veinte filmes, entre largometrajes, documentales y cortos; obras que han lograda trascender en el tiempo e instalarse en la memoria colectiva de quienes amamos el buen cine.
"La muerte de un burócrata", película que hoy nos ocupa, es una sátira social llena del desenfado que caracteriza al humor criollo y caribeño. Siempre en tono de comedia, la película hace una crítica sobre el interminable y absurdo papeleo burocrático y sus formalismos del que todos somos víctimas en algún momento.
Les invito entonces, a disfrutar de este filme cubano rodado en 1966 pero que mantiene absoluta frescura y valor estético.

Cuban Film Night at the Kino Latino Brussels Festival: Tribute to Titón with “Death of a Bureaucrat”
Statement by the Cuban Ambassador, Juan Antonio Fernández Palacios, at the opening of the event
Welcome to all of you,
It is a great pleasure to welcome you to this evening of Cuban cinema, where we will enjoy the film La muerte de un bureaucrat (La mort d'un bureaucrate) by director Tomás Gutiérrez Alea (Titón), one of the most outstanding Cuban and Latin American filmmakers of all time.
Trained at the Centro Sperimentale di Cinematographia in Rome, Titón absorbed the influences of Italian neorealism. His conviction in the transformative power of cinema led him to become one of the founders of the Cuban Institute of Art and Cinematographic Industry (ICAIC), a platform he considered essential for social transformation.
Titón was an exceptional creator, driven by the passion to create a cinema with its own identity, he endowed Latin American filmography with titles of great value. His films are portraits of a Cuba in movement, seen from a constructive, realistic criticism and of course with a high degree of authenticity.
Throughout his life he made more than twenty films, including feature films, documentaries and shorts; works that have managed to transcend time and become part of the collective memory of those of us who love good cinema.
“The Death of a Bureaucrat”, the film we are dealing with today, is a social satire full of the light-heartedness that characterizes Creole and Caribbean humor. Always in a comedic tone, the film criticizes the endless and absurd bureaucratic paperwork and its formalities of which we are all victims at some point.
I invite you, then, to enjoy this Cuban film shot in 1966 but which maintains absolute freshness and aesthetic value.
