On August 23, the Cuban Ambassador to Barbados, Yanet Stable Cárdenas, welcomed guests from the Diplomatic Corps accredited to Barbados, members of the Senate, officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, directors of institutions in the country, members of the Solidarity Movement with Cuba, Venezuela, and Palestine, members of the Pan-Africanist Movement, Barbadians who graduated in Cuba, and Cubans residing in Barbados, to kick off the day of celebrations for the Centennial of our Commander-in-Chief, Fidel Castro Ruz.
Our Diplomatic Mission was dressed in finery with a performance by the Right Honorable Dr. Anthony “Mighty Gabby” Carter, Cultural Ambassador of Barbados, who sang poems and songs dedicated to Cuba.Following the interventions by Mr. David Comissiong, Ambassador of Barbados to CARICOM, and Mr. David Denny, President of the Barbados-Cuba Friendship Association, who recounted experiences of solidarity with Cuba and recalled anecdotes about our Commander-in-Chief, we enjoyed a performance by Cuban poet Sinecio Verdecia Díaz.
At the end of the meeting, Lizzet Martínez Luzardo, Deputy Minister of the Cuban Ministry of Culture, spoke. She is leading the delegation of Cuban artists who will represent our country at the CARIFESTA 2025 Festival currently underway on this Caribbean island. In addition to Cuba's presence at such an important cultural event, she expressed her gratitude for the opportunity to inaugurate the photography exhibition "Fidel in the Caribbean," featuring previously unpublished photos compiled by the Fidel Castro Center that capture moments of our Commander-in-Chief's encounters on various trips to several Caribbean countries.
The exhibition is being shown for the first time, giving our Diplomatic Mission a privileged opportunity to celebrate this premiere in the year of our Commander-in-Chief's Centennial. This gathering of friends in solidarity with Cuba, dedicated to our beloved Fidel, concluded with a performance by the Agrupación Sur Caribe (South Caribbean Group), which sang the well-known song "Cuba que linda es Cuba" (Cuba, How Beautiful Is Cuba).
