Harare, July 22, 2026 – The new Director for the Americas at Zimbabwe's Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Trade, Lindy Chenga, received the Cuban Ambassador, Her Excellency Susellys Pérez Mesa, today.
Chenga and Pérez Mesa reviewed items on the bilateral agenda, especially ongoing joint projects and progress on various legal instruments to expand and strengthen areas of cooperation.
Both parties agreed on the positive state of relations between the two countries, based on their shared history.
They also highlighted the achievements of 2025, including exchanges of visits and new initiatives that reinforce the shared commitment to strengthening bilateral ties, in addition to those already established in the areas of health and education.
The Ambassador provided an update on US policy toward the Caribbean nation, its consequences for the population, and the dangers it poses to the international community. She also presented the Ministry of Foreign Affairs' declaration entitled "Strong Rejection of the State Department's New Slanderous Campaign."
During the meeting, attention was given to the recent measures and reforms approved by the Cuban Parliament and Government as part of their economic and social development program, in defense of socialism and independence.
Accompanied by the official in charge of Cuban affairs, the Director reiterated Zimbabwe's long-standing support for the Caribbean nation and its rejection of Washington's increasingly aggressive blockade and hostility.
The Ambassador acknowledged Harare's support, as demonstrated at the recent special session of the United Nations General Assembly.
