Communiqué from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Cuba
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Cuba learned today, September 18, through media reports, of the surprising statement made by Costa Rican Foreign Minister Manuel Tovar Rivera to the Miami Herald that “diplomatic relations have been severed” with Cuba, a fact that has never been formally notified to the Cuban government by the authorities of that country.
As previously reported, on March 17, 2026, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Worship of Costa Rica informed our Foreign Ministry, via a diplomatic note and without offering any justification, of its unilateral decision to close that country’s embassy in Cuba. Furthermore, it requested that Cuba, without any justification and invoking an alleged and unfounded principle of reciprocity, withdraw the diplomatic staff from its Embassy in San José and retain only consular and administrative personnel.
BRICS reiterates the need to end the U.S. embargo against Cuba.
New Delhi, September 13, 2026. - Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla denounced the intensification of the economic, commercial, and financial blockade, the energy blockade, and the secondary sanctions imposed by the U.S. government against Cuba, as well as the threats of military aggression looming over the island, during his participation in the 18th BRICS Summit.
Held second Meeting of Cubans Living in Cairo
Cairo, August 22, 2026. The second meeting of Cubans living in the Egyptian capital took place in Cairo, with representatives from the Cuban community in attendance.
During the meeting, hosted by Ambassador Alexander Pellicer and First Secretary Odalys Capote, participants discussed various topics of consular interest, particularly the services the Embassy offers to its citizens and the new Law on Immigration, Foreigners, and Citizenship, which will take effect on November 1.
