Ambassador of Cuba holds a meeting with the Secretary of State of the Ministry of Interior of Austria

The Secretary of State of the Federal Ministry of Interior of Austria, Ms. Karoline Edtstadler received the Ambassador of Cuba to that country, H.E. Mr. Juan Antonio Fernández Palacios at the premises of the Austrian Ministry.

In the cordial meeting, both parties referred to the historical themes on bilateral relations which have been steadily developed for 71 years and they ratified the willingness to continue strengthening them through the exchange of information and experiences on topics of mutual interest. In the regard, the social and instructive work with young people, prevention and fight against corruption and criminal proceedings in general terms were identified.

The Secretary of State explained the intensive work she undertakes, as part of her duties, regarding the young generations to inform and explain the history of the horrors of fascism and prevent that this can be repeated. The Ambassador agreed on the importance of this work and referred to the presence of Cuban combatants who became victims of Mauthausen Concentration Camp between 1938 and 1945. This is a topic of interest to jointly continue researching.

Edtstadler was interested in historical and current topics of Cuba and she expressed her admiration for the culture of the country. The Ambassador offered extensive information on the updating process of the economic and social model; the changes made in the leadership of the Cuban State and Government; as well as the state of Cuba's relations with the United States and with the European Union.

The Cuban Ambassador extended to the Secretary of State an invitation for her visit Cuba in the near future.
