Cuba and Ethiopia consolidate ties of solidarity in meeting with Friendship Association

Addis Ababa, February 4, 2025.- As part of her official visit to Ethiopia on the occasion of the celebration of the Second Congress of the Prosperity Party, the Member of the Secretariat of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba and Head of the Department of Services, Yudí Mercedes Rodríguez Hernández, held a fruitful meeting with the leadership of the Associations of Friendship with Cuba in Ethiopia,  Ethiopian-Cubans and Cubans residing in the country, reaffirming the solid bond of brotherhood between the two nations.

During the meeting, Ms. Rodríguez Hernández gave an update on the current situation in Cuba, highlighting the challenges facing the island due to the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by the United States, the renewed measures against the Cuban revolution, the re-inclusion in the list of States that allegedly sponsor terrorism and the effects of the global crisis,  as well as an extensive explanation of the strategies implemented to advance in the development of the country.

She also highlighted the importance of international solidarity and the support provided by the movements of friendship with Cuba, underlining the fundamental role played by these organizations in the defense of Cuban sovereignty and in the dissemination of the reality of the island.

Ethiopians and Cubans living in Ethiopia exalted the historic ties of brotherhood between the two peoples and reaffirmed their unwavering commitment to the Cuban Revolution. They highlighted the legacy of cooperation in sectors such as health, education and training of Ethiopian professionals in Cuba, a tangible symbol of the friendship between the two nations.

The exchange was attended by the presidents of the Association of Friendship between the Peoples of Ethiopia and Cuba, the Adama Association and the Granma 72 Association, who shared experiences and addressed possible joint projects to strengthen collaboration in various areas, especially within the framework of the upcoming celebration of the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Cuba and Ethiopia.

The meeting served as a space to reaffirm the will to continue deepening bilateral relations and explore new opportunities for cooperation for the benefit of both peoples. The Cuban delegation thanked the unconditional support of Cuba's friends in Ethiopia and ratified Havana's willingness to continue strengthening these historic ties of brotherhood and solidarity.
