Cuba makes its voice heard in the British Parliament during a solidarity event in Westminster

London, 21 October 2026. — The House of Commons of the British Parliament hosted the event ‘Cuba Speaks: Cuban MPs at Westminster’, organised by the Campaign for Solidarity with Cuba (CSC), at which Cuban MPs spoke directly about the reality facing their country and the consequences of the intensification of the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by the United States.

Before a large audience, the deputies of the National Assembly of People’s Power Enrique Alemán Gutiérrez, Marta Hernández Romero and Carlos Rafael Fuentes León outlined the serious difficulties caused by US restrictions, particularly those relating to fuel supplies, and their impact on health, education, essential services and the daily lives of Cuban families.

The Cuban representatives also highlighted the resilience of their people, the community-led responses and their determination to defend Cuba’s sovereignty and its right to determine its own future.

The meeting was attended by Steve Witherden, chair of the All-Party Parliamentary Group on Cuba (APPG), and was chaired by Kevin Courtney, chair of the CSC.

Of particular significance were the strong statements by British MPs Richard Burgon and Jeremy Corbyn, who recalled their recent visit to Cuba and emphasised the need to translate solidarity into concrete actions, including humanitarian aid and greater efforts to counter the embargo.

The event, which took place during an official visit by a Cuban parliamentary delegation to the United Kingdom, reaffirmed the importance of the ties between the two parliaments and of the British solidarity movement with Cuba.

The Cuban Embassy would like to thank the Campaign for Solidarity with Cuba, the participating MPs and all those present for helping to ensure that the voice of the Cuban people was heard once again in Westminster.
