Suva, December 13. With a call to defend the principles of the United Nations and strengthen its role on the international scene, the Cuban Embassy participated in the celebrations for the 75th anniversary of that Organization and for Human Rights Day, which took place in Nadi, to the west of the country.

The event, which focused its attention on community outreach activities, was organized as a platform to showcase the talent, culture and diverse wealth of the United Nations across the countries and individuals that comprise it. The program included culinary shows, concerts, traditional cultural activities, sports competitions, as well as thematic and intergenerational dialogues.

The Cuban Ambassador to Fiji, Carlos Manuel Rojas Lago, spoke at the panel on "Human Rights and Youth", a space in which he presented the advances of his country in defending and guaranteeing all rights for all people without distinction. The diplomat highlighted the priority that his State gives to young people, who have wide opportunities and benefits in terms of education, health, sports, culture and political participation, among others, while calling for the banishment of double standards and manipulation policy of certain sectors, which delay true and necessary progress in the guarantee and protection of Human Rights.

The Cuba stand exhibited a varied representation of traditional products, such as rum, coffee and tobacco, all recognized and praised by visitors; promotional videos of the tourist destination, Cuban music and other informative materials of interest about our country.

The initiative counted with the participation of the UN Programs and Agencies working in the Pacific, Regional Organizations, diplomatic representations of 19 countries, Fijian social and governmental institutions, the latter headed by the Prime Minister, Josaia V. Bainimarama.
